The Day Off
Today is a day
Of lesser achievements:
Of walking at leisure
& sitting at peace,
Not leaping to do
Nor bending to weed
Nor counting small wins
Of a trivial day.
Today is designed for bigger things:
For family
And future
And quiet
And love
And the not-thinking times
When the work of life
Gets done.
Cynthia Cyrus (@scholar_farmer) engages with words every day, having published several scholarly books on medieval nuns and their manuscripts. When not busy back-country hiking, she lives on a hobby farm in White Bluff, Tennessee, surrounded by chickens, fish, and family. While she has given gifts of poetry for years, she is new to the field of poetry-as-publication, with a few published poems in church collections and in Across the Social Distances: Poetry in the Time of the Virus (2020).
