This is What I Want From You
I’ve made my peace with my need
so my needs are not so great
I want to sit with you on your porch swing
or couch if you’d prefer beneath the air conditioning
I want you to tell me how you played hopscotch on the playground
or didn’t because you were too frightened to ask for a friend
and no one asked
Tell me how your heart was broken and
of the hearts you broke tell me over iced cream and
a walk along the shore
let’s make a memory of it before your legs
are too worn to carry you
This is what I want
that you will take my stories and give me yours
that you will not dismiss in fear my reaching for you
that you will share with me like a friend
laughs and fears and answers
to crossword puzzles and sights of strangers
passing by and snow falling in winter fractal memories
and chipmunks scurrying across roots in spring fractal memories
the hum of a hummingbird’s wings
that you will seek me too
that you will want to
